My Pilates Class Style

Since I started teaching Pilates classes using the Bender ball and resistance bands my class have seen excellent results and are becoming very popular!

What is Pilates?

Once called “the best kept secret of the chic, rich, famous and beautiful,” Pilates is now a household name. Pilates is based on the original teachings of Joseph Pilates and his effective exercise prescription. Each exercise is designed to make the maximum use of your time by targeting the deep postural muscles of the body, building strength from the inside out and re-balancing your muscles.

Pilates attacks the roots of bad posture by toning little-used muscles groups in the abdomen, torso, upper and lower back, while incorporating a slow breathing technique to energise the body. Pilates moves are also designed to work the muscles of the whole body (abdominals, lower back, thighs, buttocks, calves, arms, shoulders) and to gently lengthen them. The result is a body that is properly aligned and at less risk of injury. It is a no- impact class suitable for men and women of ages, levels and abilities, is a good way to relax and unwind and is also weight-bearing exercise so helps to prevent osteoporosis.

Why I Love It: My Post Baby Saviour!

I have enjoyed Pilates for years but it was after I had my daughter that I started to practice Pilates on a daily basis. Enjoying 20 minutes to myself everyday helped me re-charge, strengthen and tone my post-baby physique. I got back into shape quickly after birth (partly due to good genes! ) but because I stayed active throughout my pregnancy and practiced when I could. I can’t recommend this type of exercise enough if you are wanting to CHANGE THE SHAPE of your body for the better!

Pilates is challenging yet safe exercise that promotes a balanced body, a longer, leaner, toned shape, superb posture, a flat stomach, a strong back and increased mobility and flexibility. It also increases strength and endurance, improves balance and co-ordination, all without producing over developed or bulky muscles.

NO WONDER IT IS THE FAVOURITE EXERCISE OF MOVIE STARS AND IS BACKED BY LEADING GP’s, PHYSIOTHERAPISTS, CHIROPRACTORS, OSTEOPATHS AND SPORTS PHYSICIANS.

Pilates with Mini-ball and Resistance Bands:

This class offers pilates with mini balla unique opportunity to further enhance your Pilates practice. When you introduce the non-weighted mini-ball, traditional Pilates exercises can be advanced and modified to work your body like you have never worked before! This little ball gives a brilliant focus to your practice and helps to improve motivation by giving you a challenging yet enjoyable workout. You can really FEEL the difference after every class!

We love our resistance bands!

My class members are loving the upper body workout they can achieve with these bands! They help to add another dimension to your workout and can be used to make traditional Pilates exercises (standing, sitting and lying exercises) more challenging or offer help to modify when necessary, so everyone can benefit from Pilates in more comfort. At the start of 2017 I progressed my current clients with light hand weights. These are an optional extra piece of equipment but it seems all the class members have taken to them very well and love the extra bit of cardio these little weights add to our workout. It really is amazing how much more effort is required.

My Pilates class is a 3 in 1 class! Cardio, strength training and flexibility class. Every class content is different from week to week to maintain your interest and provide an up-to-date exercise experience, so you may never get bored, helping you to stay motivated to attend week after week!

Classes are held at the United Reformed Church in Bolton-le-Sands, Heysham and Mossgate Community Centre, and Hydropaws in Hest Bank. To find out full class times please take a look at my timetable.
